An Overview of Different Types Chemical Process Pumps

Posted on: 20 January 2022

Before coming up with a business, you must put in place essential factors to ensure its smooth operations. For industrial chemical processes, pumps are often an integral part. Using the correct pumps guarantees the smooth running of operations and safety of the process. This article gives you an insight into different types of chemical processes pumps available and their suitability for various industrial processes.

What Is an Industrial Chemical Process?

An industrial chemical process converts raw materials to finished goods through chemical processes. Examples of an industrial chemical process are the decomposition of clay or limestone to make cement. These chemical processes utilize different types of chemical process pumps.

Types of Pumps Used for Chemical Processes

There are four main types of pumps that are used in chemical processes. They include;

1. Centrifugal Pumps

Centrifugal pumps are the most commonly used pumps in chemical processes. They move fluids by converting the rotational energy of the chemical flow to hydrodynamic energy. These pumps are very affordable and can be used for most industrial chemical processes. Examples of chemical methods used by pumps include sewage treatment and agricultural fertilizers.

2. Positive Displacement Pumps

Positive displacement pumps were developed before centrifugal pumps. They are used in chemical processes involving viscous fluids and paste-like fluids. The pumps trap a fixed amount of liquid then force out the fixed fluids using high pressure. The high pressure prevents the chemicals from clogging, slowing, or failing. All types of rotary pumps in chemical processes fall under these types of pumps. Examples include gears, screw pumps, and rotary vanes.

3. Diaphragm Pumps

Diaphragm pumps move fluids in a diaphragm. The pump uses two different diaphragms that move forward and backward, creating a vacuum that allows the removal of fluids in a chemical process. These pumps exist in both plastic and metallic designs, and their usage is dependent on the type of chemical process. Examples of these pumps include motor-driven pumps and wanner hydra-cell pumps.

4. Turbine Pumps

Turbine pumps use turbine-shaped impellers to move fluids in a chemical process. The impellers enable the pipes to generate a high discharge pressure making them suitable for handling gas-liquid substances. Turbine pipes are used in cooling water circulators industries where high pressure is needed. Companies like breweries that use small boiler feed also use turbine pumps.

Choose the Best Pump Manufacturer

Before engaging in any chemical process, you need to choose the best type of pump that suits the process. After selecting the type of pump you require, seek expert opinion to help you settle on the best chemical pumps manufacturer. This ensures you get a quality pump that is durable and performs optimally to meet your chemical processes' needs.
